Norridge resident one of nearly 300 local artists to exhibit at famed Merchandise Mart in River North as part of citywide Chicago Artists’ Month.

CHICAGO- Kina Bagovska, a resident of Norridge, has been selected for participation in the 11th Annual Chicago Art Open, the largest annual survey of Chicagoland artists.

The Chicago Art Open is produced by the Chicago Artists’ Coalition, the city’s largest visual arts service organization. The exhibition and related programs take place from Friday, October 3 through Sunday, October 19 on the NE corner of the Eighth Floor of the Merchandise Mart, 222 Merchandise Mart Plaza, in Chicago’s River North district.

Bagovska will present the work “Ron Carter”, as selected by a panel of three distinguished jurors: Candida Alvarez and Kymberly Pinder, PhD, both of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago; and Catherine Edelman of Catherine Edelman Gallery, Chicago. The exhibition features approximately 300 works of art in all media, including: painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, video, and installation art. All artwork in the exhibition is for sale, and many artists make valuable connections with local collectors, curators, and art professionals as a result of their involvement.

“I was born in Bulgaria, a country rich in history and culture with old traditions in dance and music which have been expired my art. I have been exploring the collaborative art with music for mostly of my art. Music is the center of my art as a rhythmic expression of light and shadow or lines.
In 2004 I have received an Honorary Mention –Women in the Arts 2004, for my painting “The goddess of dance”, from Latin-American Museum, Miami, FL which became a cover story for the Chicago Artists coalition’s newspaper at the Chicago Art Open, 2005. In 2008 I have had a grant from Illinois Arts Council for my collaborative art, “Legend of Bread”. On October, I will participate in ARC all member’s show “Does it matter?” at ARC gallery.”
Since its debut in 1998, the Chicago Art Open has been an integral part of Chicago Artists’ Month, a citywide celebration of the arts coordinated by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. Chicago Artists’ Month features more than 200 arts and cultural events throughout the city during the month of October. The theme of this year’s Chicago Artists’ Month is “Artists and Issues that Matter.”

The exhibition host, Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc., is one of the largest trade show producers in the world, operating more than 300 special events annually throughout the US and internationally, including April’s blockbuster art fair, Artropolis. The Chicago Art Open’s move to the Merchandise Mart, the world’s largest commercial building, represents a new level of professionalism for the exhibition and for the participating artists.

The Chicago Art Open will run October 3-19 from 10 am- 5 pm daily. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $5/person. The formal Opening Benefit will take place on Friday, October 3, from 6-10 pm.
