Candlelight Vigil Supports Convicted Medical Personnel
Eight years ago, five Bulgarian medical personnel and one Palestinian
doctor who were stationed at a hospital in Libya were falsely accused
and sentenced to death for infecting patients with the AIDS virus by means
of unsanitary syringes. Recently, their appeal was rejected, and their
execution is due at any time. In support of these innocent people, there
are protests, meetings, candlelight vigils, media coverage all over Europe
and Bulgarian government is involved in an effort to save their lives
and prove their innocence.
Some are speculating that this case is a ploy by Libya to avoid paying
the large debts owed to Bulgaria.
The ribbon below, which has the message "You Are Not Alone"
in both English and Bulgarian, is recognized as a symbol of support for
these innocent medics and was given to supporters to wear at a candlelight
vigil, organized by the Bulgarian Horizon newspaper, which was held at
Roadrunner Park located at 36th Street and Cactus on Sunday, January 28
at 7 p.m.
A large number of people attended the vigil and 174 supporters signed
a petition for the cause which was then forwarded to the Libyan embassy,
the Bulgarian embassy, and the Arizona senators.
